Nikkor 85mm f/1.8 D review roundupIf you don't need the speed or can't afford the expensive 85mm f1.4 Nikkor lens or both, then this lens may be the right one for you. It took Nikon a while to produce a superb compact 85mm lens, but this time they finally got it right. Without a doubt, this is a fine portrait lens for photographing portraits which has reputation for excellent contrast and resolution.

Photozone has reviewed Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D and wrote
"The Nikkor AF 85mm f/1.8 D was a very boring lens during the tests simply because it showed a exceptional performance in all tested categories. Besides the lab results the lens shows a beautiful bokeh (out-of-focus blur). If I had to name a weakness it may be flare in contra light but it is a minor issue in the otherwise very harmonic package. So if you´re looking for a portrait lens or a similar application where you would like to isolate an object from its environment this is an ideal lens. Highly recommended!"

Photo Test Center has reviewed Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D and wrote
"Build quality is fine but the front part of the lens has a disconcerting wobble. Both examples I’ve owned have been identical in that respect so don’t worry if the front section seems loose. Nikon usually do better though, so it’s about the only thing I don’t like about the Nikon AF 85mm f1.8. It does come with a proper screw in metal hood though so I forgive them."

Juan Parmenides has reviewed Nikkor 85mm f/1.8D and wrote
"The images quality is very very good. It is clear in any aperture, especially in f1.8, where it will provide us a nice dream blur of the bottom. The difference in price that has the 85mm f1.8 (450 Euros) in front of the 1300 Euros that 85mm f1.4 costs, and that fstop fraction in the practice is not anything, it would really be necessary to be thought the acquisition of the most expensive. You can shoot in interiors with total tranquillity without the help of flash. Moreover, if you want to shoot external, constructions even, because their distortion is almost null, and you close it until f 8, you will obtain some images of an impressive sharpness. The chromatic aberrations can consider them as non-existent."
